Leaving Your Mark 2025 - Assure Health Group
Assure Healthcare Group of Arizona is a growing organization dedicated to creating meaningful opportunities, community connection, and a higher quality of life for adults with disabilities. Through innovative programming, compassionate support, and a commitment to inclusion, Assure is reshaping what adult disability services can look like.
With locations across Tucson, Phoenix, and Green Valley, Assure offers a wide range of services focused on both enrichment and independence. These include music therapy, animal-assisted therapy, engaging day programs, and a supported employment initiative centered around its nonprofit thrift store, The Living Inspired Hive.
For founder and owner Rebeca Lopez, the mission is deeply personal. After selling her pediatric therapy company, Milestone Pediatrics, in 2021, she recognized a significant gap in services for individuals with disabilities once they reached adulthood.
“After 18, options become extremely limited,” Rebeca says. “Too often, adults are placed in day programs that don’t offer growth, purpose, or meaningful social connection. We wanted to change that.”
Assure’s day programs focus on building independent living skills and social engagement through activities like cooking classes, Zumba, crochet, seated yoga, and daily opportunities for connection. The goal is to eliminate the stigma around traditional day programs and instead create spaces that feel purposeful and inclusive, especially in underserved communities such as Green Valley.
One of Assure’s most impactful initiatives is The Living Inspired Hive, a nonprofit thrift store in Tucson that also serves as a supported employment site. The store provides adults with disabilities hands-on job training and real-world work experience.
“Employment opportunities are rare,” Rebeca explains. “When doors wouldn’t open, we created our own.”
Assure’s commitment to community extends beyond its programs. Each year, the organization supports families through the Division of Developmental Disabilities’ Gifts from the HEART program and provides holiday meals and care packages. Importantly, Assure’s members take part in these efforts, reinforcing the belief that giving back builds confidence and purpose.
Guided by community needs, Assure chooses locations based on demand rather than perception. “Disability exists everywhere,” Rebeca says. “Access shouldn’t depend on ZIP code.”
Despite ongoing financial challenges faced by many disability service providers, Assure remains focused on its mission. Looking ahead, the organization plans to expand The Living Inspired Hive into Phoenix and continue growing employment opportunities.
Above all, Assure aims to challenge assumptions about disability.
“People with disabilities are capable, reliable workers,” Rebeca says. “They just need the chance to prove it.”
Assure Healthcare Group of Arizona continues to create pathways to inclusion, dignity, and opportunity—wherever the need exists.
